This Device Will Keep Track of Your Insulin Injections

Imagine, you could focus on something else.

There’s a new gadget will be in the market. It’s called Insulog. What does it do? It’s fitted onto insulin pens to prevent dose errors in people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
The device was developed by a startup in Tel Aviv, Israel. It was funded by crowdfunding, you know, one of those websites like Kickstarter or Ingiegogo.
The CEO of the company has had type 1 diabetes for all his 30 years of life. He designed Insulog after he accidentally injected more insulin than his recommended dose and ended up in the hospital. It was then that he realized that using technology could save people’s lives.

Insulog’s battery lasts about 5 to 6 days and can be used with various insulin pens.
In using sensors around the edges of the device record the vibrations when the pen is activated. An algorithm analyzes the vibrations and the amount of insulin calculated is logged.

Mobile Friendly

Like many of the recent smart devices, Insulog connects wirelessly to your mobile phone via Bluetooth, so it can synchronize the data and the user can view how much insulin he/she has injected. Thus, the user always stays in the recommended dosage. The phone app can also record blood sugar levels before each injection.
Other simpler insulin injection trackers are available in the market. An example is Timesulin, made by Insulcheck, a Dublin-based company.
The project is fully funded. The production is expected to begin in April of the current year, and Insulog could become commercially available for early adopters by July 2017.
Hey, here’s a business idea: a glucometer that pairs with your mobile phone so you can keep track of your blood glucose, then you download the data as CSV format, integrate it with Insulog’s data and see the effect of insulin everytime you use it. That’s a freebie.
